Their labour was the foundation of the wealth and growth of these regions, but it came at an immense human cost.
Resistance and abolition movements eventually gained momentum. Figures like Harriet Tubman and Fredrick Douglass emerged, fighting tirelessly for freedom and justice. The abolition of slavery was a slow and arduous process, with different countries ending the practice at different times. In the United States, it took a bloody Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation to finally abolish slavery in 1865.
Reflecting on this history, I am reminded of the resilience and strength of those who endured such suffering. Their stories are a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome even the darkest of times. As we remember this painful past, it is crucial to continue striving for a world where freedom and equality are truly universal.
HOWEVER: It is crucial to understand how the face of slavery has changed into an almost undetected reality in which people believe they are free. Hence the term “The best slaves are those that believe they are free” This was achieved through people like Sigmund Freud and Edward Bernays who formulated psychiatry of "How to Control the masses"
